CS Community Involvement

CS Mentorship Program
igniteCS is a wonderful program funded by Google that promotes growing awareness of computer science in your own community. The program is organized and motivated solely by student mentors. As a student leader for our program, I contacted the Jerry Zucker Middle School of Science and for the Spring 2017 semester, we ran 12 sessions where we taught 6-8 graders basic computer science principles.
My favorite memory of the term was when we taught the mentees how to program in Python - they had so draw a shape on graph paper and then write a program that would draw that shape on the computer screen. Many of the mentees liked this so much that they went home and finished the assignment by themselves and then proudly showed us the next week! :)

Student Ambassador
As a Student Ambassador for the College of Charleston's CS Department, I give tours to prospective students and their parents, showing them our wonderful department and answering their questions about CS college life.
I also volunteer for many CS Department activities, help organize events and, overall, represent the department. Below are some photos from department events.
I designed this logo for our 2016-17 Student Ambassador T-Shirts
I still like to use the design skills I developed at Parsons so I volunteered to design the logo for our t-shirts this year!

Computer Science Tutor in the Center for Student Learning
I am a tutor for all levels of computer science courses in the CSL, but mostly I help the younger students with their Python and Java assignments. I tutor twice a week for a couple of hours and am always available over email or cell phone if the students have any questions.

Programming Competitions
I have participated in a few competitions with the college, trying to represent women in computing! A few have been related to cybersecurity, a field I am interested in. I really enjoy the programming competitions!
